Bulgarian soccer club Arda Kardzhali has apologized after mistakenly holding a moment of silence for a former player, who is still alive, leaving his wife in tears when she heard the announcement.

The incident occurred before Arda Kardzhali's match against Levski Sofia on Sunday when the club incorrectly announced Petko Ganchev's death and paid tribute with a moment of silence, as reported by The Times.

The club later discovered the error and issued a public apology, explaining they had received false information about the former player's passing.

Ganchev, 78, was unaware of the mix-up until he arrived home to find his wife crying. He recounted that he had been running errands and missed the start of the game, only to receive multiple phone calls while driving.

When he finally learned of the announcement, he found it both shocking and absurd. Meanwhile, Arda Kardzhali quickly corrected the mistake, issuing an apology and wishing Ganchev many more years of good health.

Despite the awkward tribute, the team managed to secure a draw against Levski Sofia with a late goal.
