SNP reveal eight further candidates set to contest General Election

THE SNP have confirmed a further eight candidates who will contest Westminster constituencies at the next General Election.

We told earlier this month how nine MP hopefuls had been confirmed in selection contests in various seats across the country.

And now, more candidates have been chosen by local members to stand in the upcoming election.

They are:

  • Arbroath & Broughty Ferry – Stephen Gethins
  • Caithness, Sutherland & Ross – Lucy Beattie
  • Central Ayrshire – Annie McIndoe
  • Dunfermline & Dollar – Brian Goodall
  • Falkirk – Toni Giugliano
  • Glenrothes & Mid Fife – John Beare
  • Hamilton & Clyde Valley – Ross Clark
  • Paisley & Renfrewshire South – Jacqueline Cameron

Gethins formerly served as an SNP MP for North East Fife from 2015 to 2019, when he lost his seat to LibDem Wendy Chamberlain.

He has previously urged his party to "reframe" the case for independence to get voters on side.

Clark, a councillor for the Larkhall ward in South Lanarkshire, wrote on Twitter/X: "Delighted to announce that I have been selected by local members to be the SNP candidate for Hamilton and Clyde Valley in the next General Election

"Now it’s time to take our positive vision to our communities who I would be honoured to represent."

We told how Clark, 23, and his competitor Dionne Hossack, 21, were two young party members facing off in the selection contest.

A number of the confirmed candidates are also local councillors.

Goodall represents Rosyth Ward on Fife Council, while Beare represents Glenrothes North, Leslie and Markinch on the authority.

Cameron represents Johnstone South and Elderslie in Renfrewshire.

Giugliano was replaced as SNP policy convener by Marco Biagi at the party's conference earlier this month. Delegates backed his amendment to the leadership's motion on independence calling for a Scotland-wide Yes campaign to be established by the end of the year.

Writing on Twitter/X, Gethins said: "Very grateful to @theSNP members in the new Arbroath and Broughty Ferry constituency for selecting me as their candidate for the next General Election. Special thanks to Serena Cowdy and @GeorgeBrvce for their excellent & collegiate campaigns for the nomination."
