SNP MP 'removed' from Foreign Affairs Committee after frontbench reshuffle

AN SNP MP says he has been “removed” from the Foreign Affairs Committee following a front bench reshuffle.

MP for Glasgow South Stewart McDonald announced on Twitter that he had published his last report as a member of the committee.

He said: “Although I had hoped to continue on the committee following recent changes in our SNP Westminster group, I am to be removed from tomorrow.

“I’ve enjoyed my time working with some great colleagues and clerks.”

McDonald served as the party's defence spokesperson until he resigned from the Westminster frontbench following Flynn’s election as group leader.

Last month, he won the Parliamentarian of the Year award at the SNP’s St Andrew’s Day dinner.

This comes following a range of changes on the party’s front bench with Pete Wishart also stepping down from his role as the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokesperson.

Chris Law, the MP for Dundee West, also stepped down as the SNP’s spokesperson for international development and climate justice.

The decision will have been made by the party itself as official rules state: “Committee membership elections are held within each party.”
