MP Patrick Grady will reportedly not stand as a candidate for the SNP at the next Westminster election.
The Times reported that party sources confirmed that the Glasgow North MP was not eligible to stand once the vetting period was concluded.
One source told the newspaper: “He didn’t even go through the vetting process. He wasn’t allowed to, so he’s out.”
The MP (below) quit the SNP in June 2022 amid a police investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
The police probe was dropped in July, but an independent investigation already found Grady had behaved inappropriately towards a member of staff at a party function in 2016 and received a two-day suspension from the House of Commons.
He had the party whip restored at the end of last year.
If Grady does not stand as a candidate for the SNP, it could pave the way for neighbouring MP Alison Thewliss to be the candidate in the redrawn Glasgow North constituency.
The Glasgow Central constituency which Thewliss represents will disappear under the latest boundary changes.
An SNP spokesman said: “The process for next year’s General Election is currently underway, and candidates will be informed in due course.”
One MP told The Times: “There remains some sympathy for Patrick amongst colleagues but the rules are the rules.”
Grady has been approached for comment.
