SNP hiring new chief executive ahead of 2026 election

THE SNP are hiring for a new chief executive to run the party ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election.

The party has advertised the role on LinkedIn and said the SNP are looking for a leader with “integrity and influence” to fill the role after the departure of Murray Foote last year.

The salary is being kept under wraps though a past advertisement released before Foote took up the role said the pay would be £95,000 per year.

The job advert adds: “In this high-profile position you will play a key role in leading and managing the organisation, building a professional, modern, dynamic election-winning party which is fundamental to the success of the SNP.”

The role is currently being filled on an interim basis by Carol Beattie, the former chief executive of Stirling Council.

Foote (above), a former Daily Record editor, quit in October saying he was unable to "make the necessary personal commitment" to oversee changes to the party that he believed would get it fighting fit for the 2026 election.

Peter Murrell held the position between 1999 and 2023 when he quit after taking responsibility for giving wrong information to the public and the media about party membership numbers.

He was later arrested and charged with embezzlement in connection with the Operation Branchform investigation into the SNP’s finances.

Nicola Sturgeon earlier this month announced she and Murrell were to be divorced after nearly 15 years of marriage.

The party’s poor performance in the General Election put pressure on the SNP’s finances, already facing difficulties because of declining donations and membership numbers.

The party is also looking for a qualified accountant to become its new head of finance.
