AN SNP councillor has been reported to prosecutors for allegedly stealing from a police station.
Allan Stubbs, who represents Coatbridge North for North Lanarkshire Council, works for Police Scotland and has been accused of stealing property from Motherwell’s station where he is usually based.
Stubbs is also employed part-time in the office of Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Fulton McGregor.
Following an investigation, officers reported him to the procurator fiscal who will now decide whether to press charges, according to The Times.
When asked about the allegations, Stubbs told the Times he didn’t know of them and that it would be inappropriate to comment on his work outside of politics.
“I don’t know what the allegations are that you’re talking about,” he said.
“To be honest my work life and my public life are very separate.
“So I don’t talk about my work to the press, I don’t talk about it as part of my council duties. So I’m not going to talk about anything to do with that, or confirm or deny anything.”
He added: “I can tell you categorically I am currently sitting with my uniform on. I am not currently suspended.”
The allegations come after the SNP’s Jordan Linden quit as leader of North Lanarkshire Council last week.
He resigned from his post after was accused of groping a teenager in Dundee after a Pride parade in 2019.
Earlier this week, the council’s SNP group met and elected Councillor Tracy Carragher – formerly the council’s depute leader under Linden – to lead their group and the local authority.
