Gal Gadot’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony was disrupted by pro-Israel and pro-Palestine protesters on Tuesday sparking a police response.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the El Capitan Theater for the Snow White star, who has been a vocal supporter of the Israeli military following the October 7, 2023 attack.

It comes after Israel resumed its bombing of Gaza on Tuesday after nearly two months of peace, shattering the ceasefire and threatening to fully reignite the 17-month-old war.

Signs reading “Heroes Fight Like Palestinians” and “Viva Viva Palestina” were held up by pro-Palestine activists, while Israel supporters held placards reading “Standing with Israel” and “Free the hostages”.

In a video published by Variety reporter Katcy Stephan, protesters could be heard booing and shouting “shame on Gal Gadot”.

Multiple protesters were seen handcuffed by police, as others chanted “not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crime!”

Police made several arrests after tempers boiled over when a pro-Palestinian demonstrator snatched an Israeli flag.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the airstrikes that killed more than 400 Palestinians in Gaza are “only the beginning” and that fighting in the enclave had resumed with “full force”.

The surprise bombardment, which killed women and children along with a senior Hamas official, was ordered by Netanyahu because of a lack of progress in talks to extend the truce.

“Israel will, from now on, act against Hamas with increasing military strength,” Mr Netanyahu’s office said.

Despite precautions being put in place ahead of the event, including sealing off part of Hollywood Boulevard, the ceremony was delayed by around 15 minutes as police worked to disperse the protesters.

Gadot, who stars as the Evil Queen in Disney’s live action remake of Snow White, attended the ceremony with her husband Jason Varsano and daughters Alma, Maya, Daniella and Ori.

The 39-year-old Israeli actress served in the Israeli military and has voiced her support for Israel since the October attacks and its subsequent invasion of Gaza.

In a speech before the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit on March 4, Gadot said: “Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews.”

Speaking to Variety ahead of the ceremony, Gadot revealed she wanted to speak out about the atrocities because “I was shocked by the amount of head” spreading online.

“On October 7th, when people were abducted from their homes, from their beds, men, women, children, elderly, Holocaust survivors, were going through the horrors of what happened that day, I could not be silent,” she told the media outlet.

“I was shocked by the amount of hate, by the amount of how much people think they know when they actually have no idea, and also by how the media is not fair many times. So I had to speak up.”

The demonstrations precede the opening weekend for Snow White, which has had its own fair share of controversy and has even been referred to as the most divisive film of the year.

A string of controversies beset the film’s production, including casting Latina actress Rachel Zegler in the titular role while using CGI to reimagine the seven dwarves instead of using actors to play the roles.

More recently, however, there have been rumours circulating of a potential feud between co-stars Gadot and Zegler due to their different political stances.

Zegler has been vocal in her support for Palestine.

Gadot made no mention of the Israel-Gaza conflict during her ceremony, instead thanking Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel.

“I’m just a girl from a town in Israel and I could never imagine such a moment,” she said.
