It may be the first day of meteorological spring, but don’t put away that big coat just yet as Greater Manchester could still see some snow next week. After a reasonable February with above average temperatures, the mercury is set to plummet once more as March kicks off with a chilly start.
Over the next few days the weather is expected to remain overcast with the occasional shower, although it will feel rather cold. Highs of 8C are forecast for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with lows of 3C predicted, according to the Met Office.
At the weekend things will turn a little cooler in Greater Manchester. A high of 7C is forecast for Saturday, but it will feel like 5C. It will remain overcast with only a slight possibility of rain.

Sunday will be colder still, with the mercury expected to reach a maximum of 6C, with a feels like temperature of just 4C. Overnight temperatures will drop to 2C as Monday gets off to a cold and cloudy start.
Temperatures are set to reach 5C by Monday lunchtime, before plummeting to 1C overnight. By Tuesday it will feel a lot like winter again with light snow showers forecast in the morning, although there will be some sunny intervals throughout the day. The mercury isn’t expected to rise above 5C during the day, but it will feel much colder with a feels like temperature of just 1C.
And the BBC has forecast snow and sleet showers in the region are likely throughout the rest of the week with temperatures expected to remain low.
Forecasting from March 5 to March 14 for the UK, the Met Office said: “On Sunday, a mixture of sunny spells with scattered showers likely in the north and east, turning particularly wintry over northern hills and in the far northeast at times, and perhaps becoming more frequent in the north later.
“Drier conditions with sunny spells are expected in the rest of the country, with isolated showers possible at times. Light winds are expected for most, but moderate or fresh in the east.
“For the rest of the period, settled conditions are most likely across the country, with some wintry showers and snow the north and east at times. There is an increasing chance of it turning more unsettled later with spells of rain or snow becoming more likely. Temperatures overall will be below average, but gradually trend up through the period.”
