Snow forecast to fall across Greater Manchester TONIGHT as cold snap continues

Snow could fall across Greater Manchester tonight as weather warnings continue to be in force.

A Met Office warning for snow and ice remains in force until midday across parts of the region with road conditions expected to be affected. It is likely to have been an icy start for many regardless of being in this warning zone as sub-zero temperatures were recorded overnight.

Some police forces in the UK have urged people to travel only if ‘absolutely essential’ due to these conditions. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), a Government health agency, issued a level three cold alert on Monday in response to “severe winter weather”.

The Met Office has said all of England will continue to experience cold weather until 9am on Friday. It has warned that “snow showers and icy stretches may bring some disruption” and could lead to longer journeys for drivers and train passengers.

It said treacherous conditions could also lead to slips and falls on icy surfaces, and urged drivers and cyclists to beware of icy patches on untreated roads.

Some areas of Greater Manchester have woken to temperatures as cold as -3C, though it feels an even colder -5C, according to the Met Office. This has caused mist and fog in some areas.

Much of the region is only likely to see high temperatures of 2C - but it will feel even colder than this according to the Met Office. There could be some spells of sunshine in the morning and early afternoon today, similar to yesterday, but it is likely to be mostly cloudy throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

Temperatures are then predicted to drop again into the evening with snow from around 8pm all the way into tomorrow morning. Wednesday is predicted to be a slightly warmer day with highs of up to 5C and mostly sunny.
