'Snooty' UK town mocked as locals 'show up for school run in flashy cars with a Babycino'

A satire website has published an article about what they believe to be one of the 'snootiest' towns in Britain. The article describes parents dropping off their kids to school in their flashy BMW X5s after collecting them a Babycino from a posh coffee shop.

Published on iLiveHere, Farnham in Surrey has been branded the most snobbish town in the UK as they mockingly listed the tell tale signs of whether or not a not a person lives there. The story says the market town is 'showing the world just how middle class you are is an absolute must' with baby names picked out by residents including Fergus, Imogen and Alfie.

According to the scornful article, you can also spot a person from the town if they "view the weekly shop at Waitrose as an excuse to leave your 'inside voice' at home and belt out the most bourgeois one-liners such as 'is this goat's cheese organic'".

The article suggests you belong there if you say things along the lines of: "Our neighbours actually rent, so sad!". The lack of fast food restaurants was noted in comparison to the amount of boutique stores such as Jojo Maman Bébé and Chicco Bugaboo, which are the only ones that "get past our stringent residents association".

The humorous story states that if Mothercare asked for planning permission it would face 'the wrath of our limp-wristed nimby's ballpoints'. Referring to the school run, they joked a certain level of wealth needs to be reflected in your vehicle so you can 'show off how much money you have'.

It reads: "Do you have a Vauxhall Corsa? Perhaps you should think about living elsewhere, as this casts doubt on your financial position in the eyes of the Farnhamite, and we can't have people like you."

The satire content left divided opinions as one person defended his hometown on Facebook.

He commented: "I lived in Farnham in the 70s, I loved it, can't understand why people think it's snooty?" Another person responded: "I love Farnham. The people are friendly. You just need to be friendly too!"

A third remarked: "What nonsense. People with a few quid in their pocket do not necessarily equal snooty. A bit arrogant perhaps! Good luck to them. I would like to live there for sure."

However many were in agreement with Farnharm being crowned as the 'snootiest' town. One local replied: "I want to know what planet everyone's on where they DON'T see Farnham being snooty? Lived there for 22 years of my life and it's the most pompous, peacocking town within a 10 mile radius."

They added: "Seems everyone's forgotten the classist reaction when Poundland was announced to be coming to Farnham and people believed it would attract 'the wrong crowd'. I can assure you it really is [an] awful place to live if you've not got money pouring out of your own ears."

Another person agreed: "I was born in Farnham and it's changed massively. Used to be a friendly town".
