Snoop Dogg announces he has quit smoking marijuana: ‘Please respect my privacy’

Rapper Snoop Dogg has revealed he will stop smoking marijuana in a surprise announcement.

The weed advocate, 50, shared the news to his social media followers on Thursday night and asked fans to “respect my privacy” in the wake of his decision.

He said: “After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke.

“Please respect my privacy at this time.”

The statement paired with a black-and-white photo and his signature had some wondering if the remarks about his sudden sobriety were a joke.

One commented underneath the post: “I’m waiting for the plot twist.”

“Two days from now he’s going to say his account got hacked,” another claimed.

A third questioned: “Smoking briskets?”

While Ro Marley, son of singer Bob Marley, wrote: “No more BBQ at uncle’s … the grill is off for the season.”

Throughout his career, Snoop Dogg has become synonymous with smoking cannabis, and has business ties to various edibles and weed strains.

He famously smoked a joint while walking the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards in 2021, and once said he smokes 81 joints a day.

However, the artist revealed in March that he was cutting down on smoking after becoming a grandfather.

He told MailOnline: “Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways.

“The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old.

“The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking. Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?”

It’s not the first time Snoop Dogg has given up weed, having previously said in 2002 that he was quitting the drug for good. However, he relapsed not long after.

The Standard has contacted Snoop Dogg’s rep for comment.
