Two dogs accidentally started a house fire in South West England while trying to investigate the smell of freshly baked cupcakes coming from a stove.

The incident happened in Yeovil, Somerset, in England when the dogs, home alone, jumped onto the kitchen counter, turning on the gas and igniting a nearby towel.

Fire crews were alerted to the scene by a neighbor who heard the fire alarm and saw smoke coming from inside the house.

Firefighters arrived at the scene just five minutes after getting the call and were able to quickly locate the dogs using thermal imaging. The dogs were safely rescued and given oxygen through special pet masks.

"Yesterday Yeovil White Watch attended an incident where a couple of doggies who were home alone, jumped up in the kitchen to have a sneaky smell of some delicious, freshly baked cupcakes when they inadvertently turned the gas hob on," the Yeovil Fire Station said in a Facebook post. "Thankfully the owners had working smoke alarms and although only the dogs were in the property, the alarms were heard by a vigilant neighbour who confirmed there was a fire and immediately called 999."

The owner was notified of the situation and was quickly reunited with the pets.
