Smooth morning for passengers at Manchester Airport as Easter Bank Holiday begins

Smooth scenes were reported at Manchester Airport this morning as the Easter Bank Holiday began.

Travellers tweeted about getting through check-in and security on Good Friday, with many praising the airport staff and the 'seamless experience'. Earlier this morning, Paul Cheetham-Karcz tweeted: "Manchester airport Terminal 1 was an absolute breeze by the way, one of the quickest I have been through."

Nick Tomkinson said in a tweet: "Great experience this morning @manairport. Checked in, bags dropped for an @airfrance and through security and enjoying the lounge within 30mins of arriving. Staff throughout friendly and efficient."

Richard Booth said: "Well done @manairport. Through security and T1 in 15 mins - what a breeze."

Nikki added: "#ManchesterAirport @manairport No issues at terminal 2 today easy check in, used express lane for security though normal lanes were ok too. Took about 30 minutes from arriving at 6am which is 4 hours early for flight. All airport staff so lovely and polite."

Mark Scott said: "@manairport Busy airport this morning, all running pretty smoothly, staff are lovely, thanks :)."

This paints a much different picture to the scene at the airport a few days ago, when travellers reported 'carnage' at Terminal 1 after weeks of long queues and delays. Passengers said the queues for check-in and security on Wednesday (April 13) snaked out of the building as many jetted off for an Easter getaway

Holidaymakers have been advised to arrive three hours before their flight, as the mayor of Greater Manchester warned that queues and delays could continue for at least another two months.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Mr Burnham criticised airport bosses for reacting 'too late' on recruitment. The airport group are said to have interviewed over 4,000 people in the last two months - but say they are still being hit by crippling staff shortages.
