A video taken from Bacup shows large plumes of smoke billowing over the moorland on what the Met Office said is the warmest day of the year so far. An onlooker said he saw a helicopter hovering above the area.

A tweet posted by the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Eight fire engines and our wildfire burn team are responding to a wildfire on Shawforth Moor near Bacup.

"Please avoid the area and close windows and doors if you're nearby and affected by smoke."
