Smithdown Road venue among finalists to be named Restaurant of the Year

A Liverpool restaurant among the finalists vying to be crowned the Restaurant of the Year in the Uber Eats Restaurant Awards 2022.

Liverpool boasts an abundance of popular restaurants and cafes, with plenty of eclectic cuisines on offer to suit all manner of tastes and cravings. There's huge chain restaurants as well as plenty of independent local businesses to choose from, with diverse menus offering insight into other cultures and countries across the globe.

Uber Eats' coveted awards aim to recognise and celebrate the best food venues up and down the UK and Ireland, with the finalists each representing a specific region. Throughout June, the public voted for their favourite restaurant and takeaway haunts, with the final nine now in the running for the top spot.

The regional finalists include Mr T's, for the North East; The Salad Project, for London; Natty's Jerk Kitchen, for the South East; Burger and Sauce, for the Midlands and East Anglia; Chilli Daddy, for the South West; Bread Meats Bread, for Scotland; Vegan Sandwich Co, for Ireland; Love Pizza, for Northern Ireland; and Liverpool's own PICNIC, for the North West.

Smithdown Road venue PICNIC specialises in burgers, burrito bowls, wraps and more. It also offers a variety of juices and shakes.

A spokesperson for the restaurant told the Echo: "We are absolutely humbled and thankful to have been voted this far and be part of the last nine restaurants in the competition UK wide. We're really passionate about PICNIC's mission and to be recognised for that is really motivating.

"The team at PICNIC are all on a high at the moment and we're all currently preparing for the judgement day on the 1st August in London. We feel we are representing what's on offer in Liverpool to a wider audience, so we are really looking forward to cooking our favourite dishes for a panel of judges. Regardless if we win or not, we're thrilled - thanks to everyone who voted."

The finalists of the Uber Eats Restaurant Awards 2022 will now be invited to create their dishes for a panel of specialist judges, including Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith and YouTube icon and vegan chef Rachel Ama. The overall winner will be announced in August and will receive a £100,000 prize.

PICNIC is based at 509a Smithdown Road, Liverpool, L15 5AE. You can place an order here.
