Smirking bully 'violently' attacked woman and threatened her with crossbow at her home in Newark

A 'violent bully' assaulted a frightened woman and threatened her with a crossbow has been jailed. Mark Love, 51, barged into his victim’s home in November last year before dragging her across the floor and assaulting her.

She was left with black eyes and bruising following the attack. Just a few weeks later on December 30 residents witnessed Love pull a crossbow from his car boot, pointing it at the woman's home in Newark.

Love, of Cleveland Square in Newark, was soon arrested. He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, March 21 where he pleaded guilty to charges of affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Constable Chantel Cowan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Love is a violent bully who launched a sustained attack on a woman who was unable to defend herself. To make matters even worse he then caused considerable alarm to other people when he wielded a lethal weapon in public."

During his court appearance Love was jailed for 22 months. “I am glad he has now been punished for his actions and hope this case also serves as a warning to other men who commit acts of violence against women," Detective Constable Cowan added.

"We take these offences extremely seriously and will do whatever we can to bring perpetrators to justice and safeguard victims."
