Smallville star Tom Welling 'arrested over drink driving incident'

Smallville actor Tom Welling has been arrested in California for driving while over the alcohol limit, according to reports.

The 47-year-old star, known for starring as Clark Kent in the hit superhero series, was reportedly arrested at fast food chain Arby’s shortly after midnight on Monday for allegedly driving under the influence.

According to TMZ, who first broke the story, Welling’s blood alcohol level was at or above 0.08 percent, which is the legal limit for driving after drinking alcohol in California.

He is said to have been taken into custody shortly after before being released but may have to appear in court at a later date, US media reported.

Further details about the incident are unclear.

The Standard has approached a representative for Welling for comment.

News of his arrest came shortly before the star shared a gushing message on Instagram where he wished his wife a happy birthday.

“Happy Birthday to our Angel who makes our dreams come true and inspires us even more! We love you to the moon and back!” he wrote.

Welling shot to international fame when he fronted the US TV series Smallville between 2001 and 2011. The show follows the story of a young Superman, played by Welling, and depicts the character as he grows into the famed superhero.

After the season finale, Welling continued to make other TV and film appearances in shows like Lucifer and Batwoman, and he most recently appeared in the 2024 film Mafia Wars.

Aside from his work, he’s also a happily married father of two that often shares sweet pictures of his family on social media.
