The flight, chartered by Chinese oil firm Greater Pioneer Operating Co., was carrying 21 individuals, including two pilots. The crash took place during takeoff near an oil field in the oil-rich Unity state, as the plane was en route to the international airport in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
Reports indicate that the passengers on board were oil workers. The victims, as per the flight manifest, were predominantly South Sudanese, with one Indian and two Chinese nationals also among the casualties.
