New York firefighters and police have responded to "small explosions" in Roosevelt Island on Tuesday, different local networks reported.
There is still no official information regarding the cause of the explosions, which took place shortly before 6 AM local time and caused some power outages at a local level. No injuries were immediately reported as a result from the explosions.
Residents of the area told ABC 7 that they were woken up by a loud noise and felt the buildings shake. "Buildings at 2 and 4 River Road just south of the Roosevelt Island Bridge and Tram were experiencing power outages, indicating that the noise could have been electrical," the outlet added.
The FDNY said it turned the scene over to Con Edison after declaring it safe, NBC New York reported, as the situation was resolved within the hour. However, there were still transit delays as the investigation into the origins of the explosion continued in the area.
