‘Sloppy’ Tottenham hammered by Jermaine Jenas who claims key win covered the cracks before Sporting shock

Jermaine Jenas claimed Tottenham’s defeat to Sporting CP has been on the cards for some time after Antonio Conte’s side suffered their first loss of the season.

Two late goals from the hosts condemned Spurs in Lisbon as Jenas hit out at a “lethargic” Champions League performance.

The former midfielder insisted that it was far from the club’s first bad showing of the season, even if results have been good, with last week’s win over Marseille identified as a game that covered the cracks of their indifferent displays of late.

“There was a stage of the game where neither side really deserved to win but I think Spurs just did not turn up, again, if I'm totally honest,” Jenas told BT Sport.

“They spent 65 minutes against Marseille getting away with it and got the result based on a red card in that game.

“They've turned up to Lisbon today and not turned up again. There were too many sloppy performances individually. In fairness to Lloris he was keeping them in the game.

“So those two late goals for Sporting Lisbon, I thought they thoroughly deserved them in the end. Spurs have got to have a good look at themselves and do better.”
