Here’s a quick funny story from the depths of Cincinnati Bengals training camp as the preseason winds down — final roster hopeful Tanner Hudson knows all too well that he looks like former Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert.
It would seem many in the building at Paycor Stadium remind him of that fact on the regular, after all.
“I have been told that quite a few times,” Hudson said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I’m not going to argue. We do look similar. Somebody Googled it and showed me and I saw how that’s pretty accurate.”
This is probably just a funny appearance-based comment. Beyond looks, frame matches up too, with Eifert listed at 6’6″ and 255 pounds during his playing days, while Hudson checks in at 6’5″ and 239 pounds right now.
But it’s also pretty interesting from an actual on-field perspective. Hudson, when healthy, has enjoyed a really solid summer, putting him in a scrap for the final 53.
It’s going to be tough to break the top three of Irv Smith Jr., Drew Sample and Mitchell Wilcox, but if the team keeps four, he can certainly put up a fight with the likes of Devin Asiasi and Nick Bowers.
If the Bengals buy into that on-field potential too, Hudson’s going to keep hearing about those comparisons for a while.
