Slavia Prague star Ondrej Kudela has escaped being prosecuted after he was accused of calling Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara a “f***ing monkey”.
Kudela, 34, denied using the despicable words to Kamara, 25, during a Europa League match at Ibrox last season.
The incident triggered chaotic scenes leading to the Gers midfielder assaulting the Slavia defender in the tunnel when the game ended.
Prosecutors have confirmed proceedings against Czech international Kudela have been dropped and will only be revived if new evidence emerges.
Kamara has also been told he will not be prosecuted over his role in the full-time bust-up.
His lawyer Aamer Anwar yesterday said the Gers player was “pleased” to no longer be facing criminal charges but said it was “disappointing” that Kudela had avoided court.
Slavia Prague star Kudela was banned for 10 games by Uefa for racism after officials investigated the incident.
He has always denied racially abusing Kamara during the bad tempered last-16 match which Rangers lost 2-0 last March.
Glasgow-based Anwar said: “My client Glen Kamara is pleased that following submissions being made to the Crown and careful consideration of the evidence, that he will face no criminal proceedings.
“Uefa had already imposed a 10-match ban on Mr Kudela on the basis of evidence presented and found him guilty of ‘racist behaviour’ towards Glen.
“It remains disappointing that Mr Kudela chose not to personally attend a Scottish police station to answer an allegation of racist abuse. He could then have taken up the opportunity of defending himself in court.
“The Crown advised my client that they believed there ‘was sufficient admissible evidence to warrant a prosecution’ but as Mr Kudela would have faced summary court proceedings, extradition was not a viable option for the Scottish authorities.
“Glen is happy the matter is at an end. Racism should have no hiding place in football and he is deeply grateful to his teammates, club and fans from across the football world for their support.
“Glen now just wants to get on with the game he loves.”
Following the game, some Slavia Prague fans targeted Kamara online with sickening slurs.
The club defended Kudela, claiming he was “cowardly beaten with fists in the face by Kamara”.
Kudela insisted he did not racially abuse Kamara and had called him “a f***ing guy”.
Kamara was suspended for three games by Uefa after he was judged to have assaulted Kudela after the final whistle.
A spokesperson for the Crown Office said: “The Procurator Fiscal received reports concerning a 25-year-old male and a 34-year-old-male and incidents said to have occurred on March 18, 2021, in Glasgow.
“After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances, including available admissible evidence, the Procurator Fiscal decided that there should be no proceedings taken at this time.
“The Crown reserves the right to proceed in the future should further evidence become available.”
