Slap fighter receives medical suspension after being brutally dropped despite win

Slap fighter Alex Asbury has been handed a medical suspension after being dropped by a brutal shot, although he won his latest fight by disqualification

UFC president Dana White recently launched his Power Slap league dedicated to slap fighting which has generated huge controversy among combat sports fans. The new tournament, named 'Road To The Title', aired its second episode on Wednesday night after a number of contentious incidents in its launch.

A familiar face for viewers is welterweight Asbury, who re-appeared after suffering a nasty facial injury last week which saw his lip torn and face disfigured from significant swelling. He came back for a second chance after the medical stoppage to take on Waylon Frost.

After an even first round, the pair went to a second, during which Asbury failed to significantly rock his opponent. Frost responded by sending Asbury crashing to the floor by a damaging shot on the already injured side of his face, with medical staff quickly scrambling to sit him up.

Asbury was not knocked out cold and was able to return to his feet, but was deemed unable to continue after a period of review from the refereeing official. When the pair were gathered together to hear the decision, Asbury surprisingly had his hand raised after both competitors committed a foul.

The American star was delighted with his win but his joy was short-lived after it was confirmed he will receive a medical suspension. UFC president White said on the broadcast: "Asbury falls and he recovers in time. Asbury slaps but it's a foul and that was that he lifted his foot off the ground. They call a foul on both now, but Asbury can't continue.

"Here is the interesting thing about power slapping. After getting knocked out like that, the commission has put Asbury on medical suspension so he can't continue in the competition. As a result, I will give Waylon Frost his spot in the house to prove what he can do before he goes home."

Asbury then added after the fight: "I'm not going to lie. It kind of sucks because I want to make my name in this league, but I now cannot wait to get my chance again after I serve my suspension."
