Slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller Honored At Emotional Funeral

Candlelight vigil for late NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, in Massapequa

Family, friends, and a sea of blue uniforms gathered at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church to bid farewell to the late New York Police Department officer, Jonathan Diller. The funeral mass for the 31-year-old officer was attended by a large crowd, both inside the church and outside.

Stephanie Diller, the widow of Jonathan Diller, received a standing ovation as she delivered a heartfelt eulogy, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the public. She emphasized that her husband had always been a hero to her and their son, Ryan.

During the service, Stephanie Diller called for change, questioning the need for more sacrifices before ensuring the protection of police officers. Mayor Eric Adams praised Diller's heroism, recounting the officer's brave actions during his final moments.

NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban posthumously promoted Diller to detective, assigning him a badge number that honors his son Ryan. The emotional tribute highlighted Diller's love for his role as a father.

Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, condemned the suspects involved in Diller's shooting and hailed the fallen officer as a hero.

The funeral concluded with Diller's coffin being carried out of the church as attendees sang the hymn 'Lift High the Cross' in a somber moment of remembrance.

Jonathan Diller was tragically shot during a routine traffic stop in Queens, with the suspect, Guy Rivera, allegedly opening fire on the officers. Rivera's companion, Lindy Jones, also faced charges related to the incident.

Former President Donald Trump and Cardinal Timothy Dolan were among the dignitaries who paid their respects at the wake, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul briefly attended the wake to offer condolences before departing.
