Slain gangland figure's son suspected of driving at man after asking if he's Ukrainian

The son of a murdered gangland figure is suspected of driving at a man on a footpath after asking if he was Ukrainian and threatening to put him "over the bonnet".

Footage of the sickening racist attack has been widely circulated on social media and is believed to have happened on Wednesday. It comes as another anti-asylum seeker protest was held in Ballymun, north Dublin, last night.

In the footage, the young man driving a car pulls down his passenger window on Church Road, Mulhuddart in Dublin 15, and asks the pedestrian if he is Ukrainian. The driver shouts: "You speak English? Are you an immigrant are ya? Are you Ukrainian? You fresh off the boat are ya?"

The man initially asks "what" before the driver reverses and drives forward while threatening: "Are ya? I’ll stick you over the bonnet.

"Get out of here and don’t come back here ever again, yeah? Get out of here. I’ll stick you over the bonnet handy."

Following his vile spiel, the hood drives at high speed onto the path and the innocent man is forced to jump a wall into a garden of a house. Sources have revealed that the man suspected of carrying out the shocking act is the son of a slain gangster who was blasted to death as part of a Dublin feud nearly 20 years ago.

The young suspect is well-known to gardai. Although he took the footage with his mobile phone, it is unclear if he uploaded it to social media or if he sent it on before it was widely shared.

Local councillor John Burtchaell slammed the incident and said: "This shocking video shows violent racists attempting to seriously injure a young man on what appears to be Church Road in Mulhuddart.

"I hope the man reports the incident to the gardai. Communities urgently need to organise against the rising threat of the far right."

It’s understood that inquiries were carried out with those living on the road where the confrontation took place, but none of the residents saw the incident which happened in less than 40 seconds. It also remains unclear if the victim made a complaint to gardai.

The Garda Press Office was contacted over the incident.
