Skyroot has become a role model: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, Space, Atomic Energy and PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, on Tuesday, said that the unshackling of the space sector has led to a quantum leap in start ups in the area and “Skyroot has become the role model”.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given us the opportunity by opening up the space market four years ago. There are 150 start ups in this sector alone. We have lived up to the global markets with our capabilities. We had to wait for seven decades from self-imposed restrictions to realise the potential despite having the talent and industry,” he said.

The Minister was addressing the launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s new 60,000 sq. ft. design, testing and manufacturing facility and the unveiling of ‘Vikram 1’ commercial rocket at GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park, Mamidipally in Rangareddy district, on Tuesday.

“From being behind technology by at least 15 years, we are now on a par. Skyroot is an inspiration to the vast talent pool aspiring to set up their own startup ventures, especially in new and emerging sectors such as space, bio-tech, agriculture and energy,” said the Minister.

“The way forward is a synergy between public and private institutions to explore new avenues. The overall market for the country could race up to US$ 40 billion to US$ 100 billion from the current eight billion by 2040. The entire world is now eagerly waiting for the Chandrayan-3 Mission results,” said Dr. Singh.

“Unveiling of our Vikram-1 space launch vehicle on the same day when our new headquarters was inaugurated is a moment of great pride. Our design prowess and cutting-edge home-grown technology have been integral to the creation of Vikram-1,” said co-founder and COO Bharath Daka.

“Every rocket, during its travel to space, has to push through a point of maximum stress called ‘Max-Q’. Our Max-Q headquarters serves as a powerful symbol of our unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and accomplishing the extraordinary, all in pursuit of our mission to Open Space For All,” said co-founder and CEO Pawan Chandana.
