SKY Sports TV reporter has near miss after tree crushes car on driveway due to Storm Malik

A North East sports presenter has said he is 'badly shaken but still alive' after an ancient oak tree crushed his car parked on his driveway in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Keith Downie took to social media yesterday (29 Januray) and today to share footage of the significant damages his new motor has suffered due to high speed winds from Storm Malik falling a tree.

The Glaswegian reporter living in the Toon, who works for Sky Sports, was thankfully unscathed from the incident while the Oak crushed his BMW parked on his driveway - The Daily Record reports.

Photographs posted to Twitter by the reporter himself yesterday show a fallen tree on top of the motor, with an array of debris scattered around the vicinity.

The windscreen was shattered as a result, as well as the back window - and a large portion of the tree itself now lays inside the car around driver's head height.

Keith posted the pictures on Twitter, after finding the written off motor he has only had for three months, writing: "How’s everyone’s Saturday?

"Thankfully I’m safe but things could’ve been a lot worse."

He later added on an Instagram story: "Badly shaken today but still alive.

"Poor car only lasted three months... but it can be replaced.

"Thank you for all the messages."

A litany of messages were posted to social media, with people sending Keith their well wishes after the horrific incident took place.

One said: "Crikey! Glad to hear you're OK," while another commented: "Wow, really sorry to see this mate but pleased you're all safe!"

Another person added: "Things can be replaced, but people can’t."

While another wrote: "Glad everyone is ok. Don’t worry about the cars, that’s the insurance companies job.

"Focus on you and your families health."

Keith also returned to social media today, posting a video of the extensive damages his property has suffered through Storm Malik.
