Sky feels the heat and reduces Glass deal to £14 following Amazon's new Fire TV UK launch

Sky has updated their deal packages for their popular Glass product following the launch of Amazon's new Fire TVs. Amazon now have three brand new Fire TVs available to buy in the UK and all are said to rival the Sky Glass.

The new Amazon Fire TVs , the Omni QLED Series, Fire TV 4-Series and Fire TV 2-Series, hit the UK market in Amazon's new Spring Sale, which launched at 6pm on Monday (March 27) and will run for three days. Amid the Amazon sale, several retailers have begun to offer their own deals to go head to head with the competitive prices on offer on the online retail giant's website.

Following the Fire TV launches, which all feature 4K Quantum Dot Technology (QLED) display, hands-free Alexa controls and more, Sky has lowered the price of their Sky Glass offer to £14 a month, while also throwing in a freebie.

TV lovers can now get three months free of Sky TV and Netflix, which would usually cost £26 a month, for free when they sign up to the Sky Glass offer. The £14 package includes a 43 inch Sky Glass TV and the Sky TV and Netflix package.

This means that users will only be paying £14 for the Sky Glass while getting all the channels that would normally carry an extra fee, free for three months. After the three month period the TV package will cost £26 which would take the total deal to £40 a month but if you've already got Netflix you can cancel this as the Sky package includes Netflix within the price.

Sky Glass comes in three sizes, a 43 inch small, a 55 inch medium and a 65 inch large. There is also five colours to choose from which include: anthracite black, ocean blue, racing green, dusky pink and ceramic white.

Those who want to opt for a medium size Glass will need to pay slightly more than £14 as this size is £19 a month but the free three month Sky TV and Netflix package is also included. The large TV is £24 a month but also has the free TV offer.

Sky launched their Glass product in October 2021, exciting the streaming market, with one of its main attractions being that it could ditch the satellite dish and unsightly TV box and power your favourite channels through your internet connection.

The voice-activation, similar to Amazon’s Alexa device, also lets you browse channels, pick one to watch and add your favourite shows to your Playlist. There’s a remote that comes with it but with voice-activation if you’ve lost the remote (usually down the back of the sofa) you can just say “Hello Sky,...” with your command.

If you don't fancy a Sky Glass but want to upgrade your viewing experience then Sky have also got a host of other TV deals to try and entice customers amid the Amazon Fire TV launch. There's next day delivery for free on Sky Stream packages from £26 a month.

Sky Stream is a TV box that gives users the Sky Glass experience, without the cost of the TV. With Stream, everything is beamed over Wi-Fi, like Glass, which means TV lovers don’t have to worry about a weak TV signal as long as they have a good broadband connection. The tiny TV box can plug into any television and start streaming with no dish or installation required.

Popular apps like Netflix, Disney+, iPlayer, Amazon Prime or more, will all be in one place on Sky Stream, meaning users can get their favourite shows in seconds. You can read in full about how it works here.

Sky also have the Sky, Netflix and Cinema TV package for £37 a month, whereas the Sky, Netflix and Sports package with Sky Stream is £46 a month.

If you don't want a Sky Glass and are tempted on moving to Amazon with Prime Video then you have a look at their offers here.
