Sky Q customers have been advised to take a look at their settings for an easy way to ensure they aren't needlessly adding money to their energy bills.
Some users may be unaware that the devices come equipped with an Eco mode for times when it isn't in use. This setting is recommended by Sky, as it means that your box will use less energy by going into low power mode between the hours of 2.30am and 5.45am.
It's easy to switch your box over to Eco mode - simply press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings, then Setup, then go into Preferences, followed by Standby Mode for the options. And you don't have to worry about any recordings you have planned overnight - the box won't go into Eco mode until any scheduled recordings are complete.

If you're a night owl, you can simply press the power button to make the device active again - however, Sky warns that it can take a few minutes for your box to come out of Eco mode. If you have a Sky Q Mini box, you may find that you experience connectivity issues if you try to bring it out of Eco mode during hibernation hours - you can switch your Standby Mode setting to Active or None if this becomes a persistent problem.
This isn't the only easy change you can make when it comes to your TV in order to cut down energy costs. According to British Gas, simply leaving your TV on standby can add over £24 to your bill over the course of the year as one of the worst offenders when it comes to so-called 'vampire devices' - appliances that continue to run even when you're not using them.
British Gas found that these appliances can drive bills up by nearly £147 a year if left on standby. While some devices need to be left on, such as your router and smart speaker, turning off the likes of your computer, games console and microwave at the wall can lead to significant savings.
Your Sky Q box could be one of many appliances around your home that comes equipped with an eco mode, with the likes of modern washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers typically having the energy-saving setting. While using this mode might only save pennies with each use, it all adds up - read more about how much you could save here.
