Sky Broadband customers face huge bill changes as provider hikes price of bundles

Sky Broadband customers will see their payments increase from April as the telecom provider makes adjustments. It comes just weeks after its mobile customers faced rising monthly bills on accounts.

Account holders will now be expected to pay around £5 more each month for selected broadband and TV packages, raising the total cost by £67 a year. Earlier in the year Sky raised the prices for its mobile customers by £1 per month on device payments.

The current cost-of-living pre are forcing the industry to charge its customers more, this year alone providers including EE, Plusnet, Talk Talk and Three have confirmed increases to help cover rising business costs.

BT customers have also seen their broadband bill go up by £8.64 a month, more than £100 a year in what is so far the biggest price hike of the year. As a lot of other providers are raising prices it won't be as simple for existing Sky customers to leave and look for a better deal, as billpayers could still face an increase if they switch.

Sky's broadband and TV prices will go up from this April 2023 and it affects customers with broadband and TV packages, although the specific package customers have will make the difference if they can avoid the extra charges or not. Sky's Broadband packages allow customers to cancel their contracts for free, it's one of the only providers to do so and this means affect customers could look for a better deal and avoid the added £5 per month.

Customers with certain TV packages (Sky Q, Netflix, Sport and Cinema packages) are tied into their contract length and cannot cancel at any time if so they face additional exit charges, which would be far more expensive than the extra £67 a year.

We've put together a small guide on where Sky customers can go for advice, a breakdown of Sky's price increases and deals that affected customers could consider changing to. Our advice includes that shared by the consumer team at MoneySavingExperts, on how billpayers could leave without paying exit fees.

Sky Broadband price increase and how it may affect you

Selected Sky Broadband and TV customers face an average increase of 8.1%, that's £5 per month or £67 for the year. All customers affected by the rising prices will be contacted in writing.

The first increase payment is expected to be taken from April 1 tariff and if payment is taken before, the added price will be shown on your next bill.

The only customers that will not be subject to bill increases are those on the Sky Broadband Basics social tariff and customers who signed up for any Sky Stream and Sky Glass packages on and after October 18.

Sky Glass launched back in Spring 2022, one of the provider's first satellite-free streaming TVs with voice-controlled channels and cinema-style viewing it relies solely on broadband.

Bill payers are looking at an increase of between £5 and £6 each month, this would take the current cost of the Sky Q and Sky Stream package up to around £31 from the current £26, the combined Sky Glass and Sky TV & Netflix bundle would rise up to £44.

Where to go for Sky Broadband support?

If you're affected by the rising cost, there's a lot of support in place for customers who are struggling to pay their monthly bills. First up is 'Sky Mobile payment holiday', which lets customers defer credit repayments for one to three months.

Customers who aren't sure how long is left on their contract, or are expecting the contract to finish soon, can check the specific end date and details, here.

Customers can find more support when logging into their account, once logged in visit 'help' (in the top right corner) and select Sky TV or Broadband. Next select 'account and billing', 'bills and payments' and then 'difficulty paying my bill'.

Here it gives customers the option to select what they need help with under these categories; 'debt management', 'managing my call charges', 'difficulty paying my Sky Talk bill', 'difficulty paying streaming TV bill' and 'difficulty paying Sky Mobile bill'
