Sky apologise after Celtic fans chant 'if you hate the Royal Family' during minute's applause for the Queen

Sky Sports apologised after anti-monarchy chants were heard from a section of the Celtic support during a minute's applause for the Queen ahead of their Scottish Premiership clash against St Mirren in Paisley. Commentator Ian Crocker said: "Apologies if you were offended by anything you might have heard. Most showed respect, some did not."

It comes after Hoops fans were slammed for displaying a "F*** the Crown" banner and others mocking the late monarch during their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland in midweek. And at Paisley some of the visiting support chanted "if you hate the Royal Family clap your hands" while a banner with the same message was also unveiled, along with a Michael Fagan CSC flag, a reference to the Buckingham Palace intruder who broke into the Queen's bedroom.

Dundee United released a statement after their fans disrupted the minute's silence before their game against Rangers at Ibrox while footage also surfaced on social media of similar scenes at Easter Road before Hibs played Aberdeen.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou appealed to the Celtic fans to show respect during the applause. Speaking before the game, he said: "There’s a minute’s applause (on Sunday), we will abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We will do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”
