A HUMAN skull and other bones have been found during renovation work to a property on a Highland estate recently bought by a millionaire.
The remains were found in a lodge recently bought by millionaire financier Ian Wace in Wester Ross.
The remains were found in Badentarbat Lodge on Wednesday morning, and police were called out to examine the findings.
One local resident said the lodge is being guarded "24/7 by a police car," but rumours of the finding spread throughout the village overnight.
The remains have been confirmed as historic.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.25am on Wednesday, 12 February, 2025, we received a report of human remains discovered during renovation work at a property near Achiltibuie.
"Enquiries were carried out, and the remains were confirmed to be historic."
In July last year, Wace offered to gift the CCDC funding for the estate which includes Achnahaird beach and four of the neighbouring Summer Isles and more than 90% of the group voted to accept his proposal.
The estate agent Strutt and Parker listed Badentarbat Estate, which is on the tourist hotspot NC500 route, and described it as a “significant portion of the Coigach peninsula”.
The group said that if it had refused the donation, Wace intended to buy the estate himself.
