Chaos has reigned at Dublin Airport this year with long queues at security and flight cancellations making international travel less and less appealing.

1. Entire 200-year-old castle in Galway
If you've ever dreamed of being king or queen, Kilcolgan Castle offers you the unique experience of living in your own castle - at least for the night.

The castle is located on the banks of the Dunkellin river overlooking Galway Bay, as well as being 25min drive to Galway city. Guests have use of several reception rooms with open fires and spacious kitchen dining area and fishing on the grounds.
The castle dates back to the 11th century but was rebuilt in the late 18th century.
The home is currently available for €520 a night.
2. Tropical treehouse in west Cork
This treehouse in west Cork set in a "tranquil oasis of trees and ferns" will take you right back to nature.
The wooden cabin for two features a cozy wood-burning stove as well as a balcony, perfect for a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.
It is located in Macroom, County Cork, with Lough Allua less than 5km away, offering fishing and kayaking activates for guests.
The home is currently available for €128 a night.
3. Rustic 19th century stables in Carlow
These converted stables are set around a granite 19th century courtyard with a rustic barn, perfect for large groups.
The barn is a communal lounge area complete with wood-burning stove where guests can use the basic facilities to cook up a feast or a bbq or enjoy a celebration with fire pit and picnic benches in the courtyard.
Guests have access to the grounds of Lisnavagh House and it is located near the village of Rathvilly in Carlow.
The home can sleep 16 guests and is currently available for €900 a night.
4. Lake cabin on Lough Derg
This "hidden gem" is set right on the banks of Lough Derg in County Clare with views overlooking the lake.
The cabin itself is brightly decorated with a full kitchen, living area with a wood-burning stove and loft bed.
Guests also have their own private veranda and use of a small BBQ during their stay.
The couple's retreat is currently available for €138 a night.
5. Houseboat in Kildare
This bright blue houseboat called the Maude Gonne could be the ideal getaway for people looking for an alternative holiday this summer.
A boating lesson is included in the stay, where guests are show how to navigate the barge along the waterways. On board, the boat is fully equipped and even has a stove to keep toasty.
The houseboat, located on the Grand Canal in County Kildare, is currently available for €214 a night.
