A skateboarder had died after being hit by an SUV in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Raglan and Pitt streets in Waterloo shortly before 5pm on Sunday.

They found a man, believed to be aged in his 50s, with critical injuries.

Police said the driver of the SUV stopped and rendered assistance until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.

The injured man was transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he died a short time later.

An investigation into the incident is under way.
