The area around the skate park was cordoned off while officers conducted investigations. A number of roads, including Birch Green Road, Fairhaen, Fairburn and Fawcett, were sealed off while enquiries were carried out. Cars were turned away from the scene at either end.

Lancashire Police said nobody had been arrested at this time and said there would be an increased police presence in the area for a number of days.

A spokesperson said: "We appreciate that this incident will be worrying for the local community but there will be an increased police presence in the area and anyone with concerns is welcome to speak to an officer." Read more here.

Man spent afternoon drinking with neighbour before stabbing him to death

A man spent the afternoon drinking with his neighbour before stabbing him to death, a court has heard.

Jeffrey Kelly went on trial accused of murder after knifing 49-year-old Derek Burns in the heart, following an alleged disagreement over building work. Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday, that police and paramedics were called to the scene on Newsham Drive in Tuebrook shortly before 7pm on May 15 this year.

Andrew O'Byrne KC, prosecuting, described how an air ambulance with a doctor on board also attended and found that Mr Burns had been stabbed "more than once".

In the early evening, Ms Buxton "became aware of some sort of altercation". She went to the 56-year-old defendant's flat after hearing Mr Burns shouting, and attempted to perform CPR on him after he was severely injured. Read the full story here.

John Lewis Christmas Advert

After what feels like months of waiting, John Lewis' Christmas advert for 2022 has arrived.

This year, John Lewis has used its Christmas ad to raise awareness of children in care with the story of a middle-aged man learning to skateboard before welcoming a young teenager into the family home.

John Lewis said it understood that not all foster carers had the benefit of knowing who they would be looking after in advance and that its broader campaign also featured "authentic voices of carers" and "young people with different experiences of a complex care system".

But it said that "in a challenging year, we felt it was important to demonstrate that it's what we do that matters most", adding it was proud to use its Christmas ad to "generate conversation and action around an often overlooked issue". Read more here.
