Sixteen year-old West Lothian gymnast Megan Docherty has once again proven her skill on the national stage – taking home gold and silver at a British gymnastics masters event.
Judges were wowed by Megan’s performance over three days from March 24 to March 27 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
The Cedarbank student took home the first place trophy for vault in the Women’s Disability Master Championship, and also nabbed an incredibly close second, earning a silver in beam.
The average score of her two vaults, 11.000, was enough to take the top spot from Freya Hill of Gymnastics Elite who had a score of 10.800.
Megan’s mum, Shona McIntyre, spoke about her daughter winning the recent string of medals, she said: “It’s amazing how much Megan has done in the last few weeks!
“After doing so well the Scottish championships, it’s great to see her keeping it up in the British championships just two weeks later.
“She’s quite chuffed with herself but she’s a quiet girl so she won’t advertise her success much – which is why I’m so happy to see all the support and encouragement the community gives her.
“She has a while until her next championship in November but no doubt she’ll spend all those months in between now and then practising and upgrading her skills.”
It was just two weeks before the British masters event that Megan took home three gold medals and a bronze in the Scottish masters – proving herself to be one of the best gymnasts in the country.
It was Megan’s first time competing in either masters, qualifying for the event by doing incredibly well in the Disability Artistic British Championships in Stoke on Trent last October.
At the Disability Artistic British Championships Megan was part of a hugely successful Scottish team of 14 who took home an impressive total of 75 medals at the competition.
Megan competed in both the masters for West Lothian Artistic Gymnastics but is also a member of City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club.
In total, Megan, who started the sport at the age of eight, took home six medals in March alone.
The teenager continues to make West Lothian proud as she works towards her ultimate goal of becoming an Olympic gymnast.
