Police have named a sixteen-year-old boy killed in a double stabbing in Clerkenwell as Jamaly Samba Baibu.

Officers were called to the stabbings in Seward Street around 10.30pm on Tuesday. Despite the efforts of medics, Jamaly was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second boy, aged also sixteen, was rushed to hospital where his condition was assessed as being non-life threatening.

Witnesses have said they saw a balaclava-clad group of people on hire bikes attack the two boys.

No arrests had yet been made as homicide detectives on Thursday night renewed appeals for those with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran, who is leading the investigation, said: “Jamaly had his whole life ahead of him.

“Our thoughts are with his family as they come to terms with this terrible loss. We will do all we can to support them.

“As we work to piece together what happened in Seward Street, I appeal to any members of the public who were in the area, who saw or heard anything unusual or who have any information at all about what took place, to come forward.”

Members of the public rushed to the two boys’ aid, but some did not leave details with police. DCI Kieran appealed for those people to get in touch.

She added: “Anyone who was driving nearby, particularly along either Seward Street or Central Street, please check any dash cam footage that you might have captured of the incident or of other significant activity.”

A crime scene remains in place at the location.

Locals have told of their horror in the aftermath of the fatal stabbing.

One, a mum-of-one whose flat overlooks the scene, said: “I have to explain to my daughter why there is police tape outside and why blue lights were flashing outside most of the night.

“People should not have to live with this. Another day another victim, it’s not good enough.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, with the reference 7708/21Dec.
