Six-year-old had crowd cheering when she completed a running race - then forgot to stop

A six-year-old girl had a crowd cheering when she completed a running race. For the youngster forgot to stop at the finish line and did a full lap of the course.

Edie Campbell-Goddard was taking part in a 10m sprint for children at the Highland Games in Oban, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. But after she crossed the finish line and saw she was in the lead she was determined to keep going.

In the end she competed a 400m run around the track. Edie, who was wearing a tartan dress, was cheered on by spectators at the event on August 25.

Proud mum-of-two Dawn, 47, from Nottingham, said she thinks Edie enjoyed the limelight and making people smile. Counsellor Dawn said: “Edie kept asking me 'do I have to do the race' and I told her no, but as soon as they announced it she as right up there.

“After she crossed the finish line she looked back and saw she was in the lead so just kept going, she was so determined. Everyone was cheering and clapping for her, she loved being in the limelight I think, and seeing people smile."
