A six-year-old boy has become the fourth child to die in the Solihull lake tragedy after falling through into the icy water.
The unnamed youngster had been fighting for life in hospital since the tragedy on Sunday, in which three other boys, aged 11, 10 and eight also lost their lives.
West Midlands Police has tonight confirmed the death of the youngest victim.
The force said in a statement: "It is with heartfelt sadness we have to report this afternoon, the six-year-old in hospital has lost his fight for life.
"Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragedy. We cannot comprehend the enormity of the pain they must feel and our hearts go out to them.
"Specialist officers remain in contact with the family and we will issue further information as soon as we can."
"The searches have been completed and the scene of the incident at the lake will be lifted this evening."
This week members of the community held candle-lit vigils for the four young victims.
One of them was named as 10-year-old Jack Johnson, while another was named locally in floral tributes as 11-year-old Thomas.
The fourth was the eight-year-old cousin of Jack's.
Hundreds of colourful tributes now adorn a shrine set up near Babbs Mill Lake - the scene of the tragedy.
Earlier this week Jack's family revealed he died a hero as he lost his life in an attempted rescue of the three other youngsters who plunged into the icy lake.
With no thoughts for his own safety, the heroic schoolboy dived into a freezing lake after hearing the screams of three struggling children.
The 10-year-old paid the ultimate price for his courage as he too got into trouble and died, his family said.
Jack’s aunt Charlotte McIlmurray posted online: “The 10-year-old boy is my nephew. He seen one go through the ice and he ran and tried to save them.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the other family. We are just broken over it.
“To find out he died trying to save three lads he didn’t even know, that just sums him up.
“He was amazing.”
Jack’s horrified family members raced to the scene as the rescue operation was taking place at Babbs Mill Lake in Solihull, West Mids.
Supt Richard Harris, of West Midlands Police, told how one officer tried to save the stricken boys.
He said: “He was trying to punch through the ice to rescue the children themselves.”
