THANE: Six workers died after a lift came down crashing from the 40-storey building Runwal Aireen in Balkum area on Sunday at around 6 pm.
While two workers were seriously injured in this accident and they were immediately admitted to a private hospital.
As soon as the information about the incident came to light, the police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and the police are investigating the matter further.
According to Primary information that the Waterproofing work was underway on the roof of the recently completed 40-storey building, Runwal Ireen, next to Narayani School in Balkum.
The accident took place when the lift rope broke while the workers were coming down after completing the work.
Spokesperson of Dhruva Wollen Mills said in a statement: "The unfortunate incident happened at the site of Dhruva Wollen Mills Private Limited in Thane at 6.15 pm today. The workers were coming down from the 40th floor and suddenly, the elevator collapsed from the 13th floor. The said elevator had been under continuous surveillance and was served under an annual maintenance contract with the lift servicing vendor. The last maintenance was done on August 23 last month where due oiling, servicing, lift room check-up, brake settings, car liner checking, up-on limit switch checking was satisfactorily done by the vendor. We are cooperating with the Police Department in the enquiry proceedings. We rapidly extended all the rescue and support operations at the site and are investigating the incident at our end, as well, with our team of experts".
