The Miami Dolphins announced on Saturday that they have activated six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey off injured reserve.
That certainly isn’t good news for the New England Patriots, who could now be the first team in the NFL to officially welcome the Pro Bowl tandem of Ramsey and Xavien Howard.
Yikes.
Ramsey has long been considered one of the best, if not the best, shutdown corner in the league. He’s big, strong and physical to deal with on the outside, but he’s also a high I.Q. player as well. That combination of physical gifts and elite technique will be a problem for any offense that faces him this season.
A glass half full perspective for Patriots fans would be the fact that this is Ramsey’s regular season debut with a new team, and he’s coming off a long layoff from a knee injury. So he might need a couple of games to get into the full swing of things.
But it isn’t like the Patriots are blessed with a bunch of receiving talent. DeVante Parker has fallen off a cliff, and the JuJu Smith-Schuster experiment has been a dud from the start. That leaves Kendrick Bourne, Jalen Reagor and rookie sixth-round draft pick Demario “Pop” Douglas as quarterback Mac Jones’ best receiving options behind an up-and-down offensive line.
What could possibly go wrong?
