A NUMBER of Scottish towns have been included on a list of hidden gems across the UK.
In total, six towns and villages across Scotland were named on the Hidden Gem Index which pinpoints picturesque places across the UK that have managed to stay under-the-radar more than most.
Data unveiled by HomeToGo shows that none of the places on the list feature on the 1000 most searched destinations for summer via hometogo.co.uk.
Which areas of Scotland made the list?
Six destinations feature across the list, with the highest ranked area coming in 8th place. They are:
- Braemar – 8th place
- Kingussie – 9th place
- Aberfoyle – 19th place
- Newtonmore – 35th place
- Drymen – 36th place
- Strathyre – 46th place
How were the scores decided?
Destinations were ranked on a wide variety of criteria, including weather, pubs, things to do and scenery.
Braemar, the highest ranked area of Scotland scored highly for its scenery, achieving a 9.8/10 and an overall score of 36.93 out of 50.
Close behind was Kingussie in 9th place which achieved an overall score of 36.88 and, like Braemar, scored highly on its scenery.
Aberfoyle, located in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, also scored highly for the views on offer.
None of the areas featured in Scotland scored particularly highly on the weather with the average score slightly above a six.
Newtonmore achieved a high score for its scenery although Drymen’s highest category was the quality of its pubs, which achieved a seven.
Strathyre ranked lower overall, although did achieve a 9.27 in the “under the radar” category.
Which destination took the top spot?
Across the whole UK, the top destination was Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds which achieved an overall score of 44.77, scoring particularly high for its weather.
