Six players Manchester United are tipped to sign this summer as fans await first addition

While Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have wasted no time in splashing the cash in this summer's transfer window so far, all has been calm at Old Trafford.

Manchester United, despite being in desperate need of new additions this summer, are yet to complete their first signing of the summer, meaning the frustrations of some supporters are beginning to mount. We are only a little over a week into the window, but the level activity at some of United's rivals has meant that the club is under increasing pressure to get their first summer recruit through the door.

United manager Erik ten Hag, who will face Brighton & Hove Albion in his first competitive game in charge in exactly seven weeks' time, is desperate to add to his squad and bolster several areas. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is his top target, but the Reds' pursuit of the Dutchman risks dragging on and on, with the two clubs yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.

But although De Jong remains the club's leading priority at this moment in time, they are also being linked with several other potential additions, including Ajax winger Antony and highly rated Villarreal ace Pau Torres.

Frenkie de Jong - 1/4

The most obvious one of them all. United are, unsurprisingly, the firm favourites to sign De Jong from Barcelona this summer, with the bookmakers currently offering odds as short as 1/4 on a deal being completed.

The 25-year-old is a player that Ten Hag is desperate to add to his armoury and fits the style of play that the former Ajax boss wants to instil at Old Trafford. Should a deal come to fruition, he would be United's standout signing of the summer, particularly as no Champions League football is on offer.

Antony - 1/2

Ever since Ten Hag was installed as United's new manager back in April, reports connecting Ajax winger Antony with a move to Old Trafford have significantly increased. The Reds want to bolster their right-wing options this summer and the 22-year-old Brazilian could be just the ticket.

According to the bookmakers, United are the current favourites to sign the skilful attacker, who scored 12 goals and grabbed ten assists in 33 appearances for Ajax last term. Ten Hag knows the secret to getting the very best out of him and he would be an exciting addition for United, with his Brazilian flair and trickery making him hugely entertaining to watch.

Pau Torres - 5/2

United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News last month, have consulted Ten Hag on the prospect of signing Villarreal centre-back Torres this summer, as they look to strengthen their central-defensive options. The Spaniard was on the club's radar last summer and were prepared to make a move for him if their attempts to sign Raphael Varane failed.

Torres, who is also being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in La Liga and enjoyed a productive 2021/22 campaign, helping Villarreal reach the semi-finals of the Champions League and scoring six goals. United are the current second-favourites to sign him this summer and would greatly benefit from his defensive qualities, as well as his ability to chip in with goals from the back.

Denzel Dumfries - 6/1

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka having been deemed surplus to requirements, United, as things stand, will enter the new season with just Diogo Dalot as their only senior right-back, meaning it should be a leading priority for them to strengthen that area of the team. Inter Milan ace Dumfries has been closely linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Christian Eriksen - 7/4

As reported by the Manchester Evening News , United are interested in bringing Eriksen to Old Trafford this summer, but face competition from Tottenham. The Dane is currently on course to become a free agent at the end of the month after turning down a new deal at Brentford, although the Bees are refusing to give up in their hopes of keeping hold of him.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term deal in January, a little over six months after suffering a cardiac arrest at last summer's European Championship, and excelled in the second half of the season, playing a key role in helping the Bees comfortably avoid relegation. The Reds are the second favourites to sign him, just behind his former club, Spurs.

Jarrod Bowen - 10/1

Considering United want to strengthen their right-wing options this summer, the Reds could do far worse than turning their attentions to West Ham United star Bowen. The England international enjoyed an outstanding 2021/22 campaign for the Hammers, scoring 18 goals and grabbing 13 assists in all competitions.

He was one of the Premier League's most improved players over the course of the campaign, so the Hammers would want a small fortune to consider parting with him. At 25, his price tag will only continue to increase if he continues performing on his current trajectory.
