The death toll among members of the Moroccan community in Türkiye has risen to six, as a result of the violent earthquake that struck the south of the country last Monday, according to the Embassy of the Kingdom in Ankara.
Official spokesperson for the government Mustapha Baitas reported last Thursday, that the number of Moroccan community members killed in the earthquake had reached four people.
The devastating earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale, struck at dawn last Monday in southern Türkiye.
A few hours after this first violent tremor, another earthquake struck with almost the same intensity, close to the epicenter of the first earthquake, which exacerbated the death toll of the tragedy.
In a related context, Morocco’s National Institute of Geophysics (ING) announced that a 4.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded on Sunday morning in Morocco’s Al Hoceima province.
The quake occurred at 7:59 am in the Nekkour commune, in Al Hoceima province, according to the ING.
The institute registered the tremor at a depth of 18 kilometers at a latitude of 35.023 North and a longitude of 3.864 West.
