More than six million disabled people will receive a one-off £150 cost of living payment from June 20, the Government has confirmed.
Ministers said the payment recognises the extra costs disabled people in particular often face, such as care and mobility needs. There will be further payments of £300 for pensioners due later this year, meaning some of the most vulnerable households can receive up to £1,350 in direct cost of living payments.
The Government outlined plans for the £150 payment earlier this year, which will be available to people on certain disability benefits. It is expected to be paid out automatically to those who are eligible in summer this year, although DWP has yet to confirm specific dates.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride said: “This payment helps protect those who need our support the most, providing a vital financial boost to six million disabled people.
“Our multibillion-pound package of support reinforces our commitment to help UK households with the rising cost of living. It comes on top of record increases to benefits and the national living wage.”

In March, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announced that the first of three cost of living payments, totalling £900, would be paid from April 25 to May 17 for those on means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit, with the other two due later this year and early next.
All of the 400,000 North East families eligible to receive the first £301 cost of living payment should have received it by the end of Wednesday, May 17. DWP said that the vast majority of payments were made in the first days of the window opening on April 25, but asked anyone who is still waiting to contact the department.
Figures released by DWP earlier this month showed that 99% of eligible households were paid within a week of the start date, with only a small few having to wait until May 17 at the latest to get their money. The Government has not released exact dates of when the second and third payments will hit people's bank accounts this, but stated that payments will all be made in the 2023/2024 financial year - meaning that the last sum should be paid before April 5, 2024.
