Six members of Liverpool squad are now free from strict Jurgen Klopp 'rule'

Liverpool’s players and staff were celebrating on Sunday night after they claimed the Carabao Cup.

The Reds secured the honours after beating Chelsea 11-10 in a penalty shootout to conclude a dramatic evening at the home of English football.

The victory handed Liverpool their ninth League Cup, and it is the first time the Reds have claimed the trophy for 10 years.

And it now means six members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad can do something all their team-mates have already been allowed to do.

COMMENT: Liverpool make inevitable statement as new possibilities emerge for Klopp

Speaking back in 2016, Reds boss Klopp revealed he had forbidden his players from touching the iconic 'This Is Anfield' sign - until they had claimed a piece of silverware at the club.

He said: "I've told my players not to touch the 'This Is Anfield' sign until they win something.

"It's a sign of respect. I touched it when I was manager of Borussia Dortmund but we lost 4-0."

Of course most members of Liverpool’s squad have already won silverware with the club, following an impressive few seasons.

First, the Reds claimed the Champions League back in 2019, before Liverpool were finally crowned Premier League champions a year later.

But recent signings Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, Kaide Gordon, Ibrahima Konate and Luis Diaz were all yet to win a trophy with the Reds before yesterday.

However all six players can now join their fellow team-mates by touching the famous 'This Is Anfield' sign after Sunday's win.
