England Lioness boss Sarina Wiegman took to Boldmere St. Michaels to release her 23-player squad selection ahead of the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this coming summer.
Manchester City stars are among her ranks as Ellie Roebuck, Alex Greenwood, Esme Morgan, Laura Coombs, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly all make the cut to travel to the land down under but there was no place for captain Steph Houghton.
It comes as City finished just outside the Champions League places for next season.
Laura Coombs cemented herself in the England squad during the Arnold Clark Cup and finds herself once again firmly in the England manager's thoughts.
Steph Houghton first captained the Lionesses in 2014, and while she was called up to the provisional squad that would eventually lift the Euro 2022 trophy she did not make the final cut.
The injury-plagued Manchester City defender told the BBC in April she had not given up hope, but at the same time “just wanted closure on the situation” after feeling she had pushed herself to the limits for a shot at inclusion.
She is now noticably absent from the World Cup squad and won't even travel as a reserve.
On her decision for her chosen 23, Wiegman said: “It is always tough to leave some players out of the squad, but they know they could still be needed if we have any issues before we start the tournament.
"I am very happy that we have such a professional group.”
