Six Halloween events in Nottingham (and beyond) you need to book for now

Are you afraid of the dark? Well, you will be by the time you've survived some of the spooktacular Halloween events on offer in Nottingham (and beyond) this October - including a truly terrifying overnight ghost hunt.

Whether it's coming face-to-face with chainsaw toting maniacs in the middle of a field of maize or taking part in an immersive screening of Wes Craven's 1996 classic Scream - which hopefully isn't too interactive - there are plenty of chills and thrills to keep everyone on their toes during the year's creepiest celebrations.

For those who enjoy the festivities minus the fear factor, there's Halloween-themed cocktail making and doughnut decorating in the city centre or a spook-tastic musical bingo out in West Bridgford.

Have a look below for a round up of events booking now.

Shake and Decorate Halloween Special, Be At One, Victoria Street

Strawberry and coconut caipirinha (Birmingham Mail)

Creepy creative cocktail making and dangerously delicious doughnut decorating is on the menu at Be At One this Halloween as the Victoria Street bar teams up with DoughNotts for Shake and Decorate on October 31, 6pm-7.30pm.

Tickets are £20 from designmynight.com.

Halloween Ghost Hunt, the Old Edwardian School, Long Eaton

The Old Edwardian School, Long Eaton (Google Maps)

The listed building opened as a school in 1910 but is now home to offices and paranormal activity - according to some supernatural investigators.

Accounts include strange smells of vanilla along with loud bangs, hearing a man’s voice and knocking, seeing a heavy door open by itself and a young girl wearing a white dress has been seen on two occasions.

If you feel brave enough to take part in the overnight ghost hunt on October 31, 9.30pm to 2am, tickets are £39 from dusktilldawnevents.co.uk.

Musical Bingo: Halloween Special, The Botanist, Central Avenue

Songs replace the numbers at musical bingo, which is being given a Halloween twist for its October 31 edition.

Hear a song and if you have the matching artist or song name cross it off, get a line or a full house to win some prizes.

Starting at 7pm, the evening runs to 11pm.

Interactive Scream screening and after party, National Justice Museum, High Pavement

Scream (Publicity Picture)

Don't answer the door, don't leave the house, don't answer the phone, but most of all... don't scream.

Wes Craven's 1996 classic Scream spooked a whole generation of horror fans with his modern twist on the classic slasher movie - and now you can experience it in a whole new immersive way, if you dare.

Taking place on Friday, November 1 at the FourFour DJ Academy, in the second-floor suite of the National Justice Museum, the evening will start with a scary photo shoot.

On arrival, visitors will be given a trick or treat goodie bag and colour changing cocktail.

The film starts at 8.30pm and during the interval the best fancy dress will be announced.

After the screening the bar will remain open until midnight.

Tickets are £11 from gigantic.com.

Scarefest, Alton Towers, Staffordshire

Three brand new scare attractions will be making their debut at Scarefest this year - making it the theme park's biggest yet.

The recently opened Dungeon will provide even more shocks and surprises to brave visitors who dare to journey down the Black River,  while a new scare maze will take visitors into The Attic: Terror of the Towers where villains lurk seeking to avenge terrible crimes.

There will also be a brand new family maze called Darkest Depths, which will take guests on a ghostly voyage into pirate folklore with visitors coming face-to-face with legendary creatures of the deep.

Families can take part in the CBeebies Land Monster Ball where there will be entertainment for the little ones.

Open until 9pm daily, Scarefest also includes rides in the dark, where rollercoaster fans can experience the Wicker Man as it bursts into flames through the darkness.

Screamfest, National Forest Adventure Farm, near Burton-upon-Trent

Screamfest returns for 2019 (Jon Thorne Photography Limited)

Back for its ninth year, the award-winning festival of fear will take place over 15 selected nights from October 10 to November 2 - and for the first time ever there will be a huge fireworks display to mark the closing night.

Those brave enough to attend will have the chance to explore five nightmarish scenarios, including Insomnia - the farm’s biggest indoor scare maze, which made its debut last year and went on to win a ScareCON SCARE Award for best set, costume and make-up.

Other fan favourites Freakout, Love Hurts and maize maze Dia de los Muertos will also return and organisers have promised to unveil a new "blood-curdlingly horrifying attraction"soon.

Tickets start from £20.95 at screamfest.co.uk.
