Gurnee, Illinois, police released new details overnight related to the shooting outside the Six Flags theme park in Gurnee Sunday, which left three people injured, two of them suffering gunshot wounds.
Authorities said a white sedan entered the parking lot of Six Flags around 7:50 p.m. and drove toward the front park entrance. Gurnee police said more than one person exited the sedan “and began shooting toward another individual in the parking lot.” After firing multiple times, they “got back in the white sedan and quickly left the area,” according to a news release from Gurnee police.
A 17-year-old boy from Aurora, was struck in the upper thigh and a 19-year-old-woman from Appleton, Wisconsin, suffered a gunshot wound to her lower leg. Both shooting victims were treated at Advocate Condell Medical Center.
A third victim suffered a shoulder injury and declined additional treatment. Officials initially said all three people had been shot.
The shooting “was not a random act,” and “appeared to be a targeted” attack outside the park, according to Gurnee police. “This was not an active shooter incident inside the park.”
