Over €100,000 in cash "suspected to be the proceeds of criminal activity" has been seized by Revenue officers after they stopped a man boarding a flight to Turkey from Dublin Airport.
The seizure was made on Sunday, and Revenue officers were granted a three-month cash detention order on Monday.
The total sum of €107,000 was taken from a passenger who was boarding a flight to Istanbul.
A Revenue spokesperson said: "On Monday, at Dublin District Court, Revenue officers were granted a three-month cash detention order by Judge Vincent Deane. This followed the seizure on Sunday of over €107,000 at Dublin Airport.
"The cash was discovered, as a result of routine profiling, when Revenue officers stopped and searched a passenger prior to boarding a flight to Istanbul, Turkey.
"The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.
"Investigations are ongoing."
